Commonwealth Avenue is laid out.

1882

The street is extended to Packard’s Corner on March 1, 1887, and to the Chestnut Hill Reservoir in 1988, where it was linked to Beacon Street, Brookline and completes what is sometimes called the “Chestnut Hill Circuit” of the Emerald Necklace. Packard’s Corner at Brighton Avenue is named for Packard’s Horse Stable and Riding School, not the Packard automobile dealership that later locates there.
